It is a gloomy Sunday here in Minneapolis. Here is some gloomy news to go along with it.First off, I am posting this picture for loyal reader EP. In a recent comment, he was wondering whether or not John McCain had a goiter. I don't know if he has a goiter or not, but he sure looks old.
Jimmy Carter of all people has called the Bush presidency "the worst." I am calling on you readers who lived through the Carter years to comment and remind us of how much better days were during his administration. Read Carter's criticism of the current president here.
Noted Scientist, err . . . I mean actor, Leonardo DiCaprio claimed at the Cannes film festival that humans are facing extinction due to global warming. I have a feeling this may be a bit of exaggeration. Really Leo, all of us might die? Read his genius here. On the other side a the coin, a real scientist, meteorologist Augie Auer, is claiming that in five years, we will all think climate change is a joke. Mr. Auer points out that only 0.12% of all green house gases are caused by humans. He scoffs at the notion that us mere humans can alter the global climate. Read his rebuke here.
Finally, Mitt Romney scored points in South Carolina this week by strongly criticising the immigration bill. Read his comments here.

I was not born until the great Reagan era, but how does James Carter get to say that George Bush is the worst president ever...because he hangs out at the United Nations or does humanitarian (publicity) activities he has become this revered foreign policy expert? No, the only possible way he could claim to be diplomatic genius is because he showed the nation the absolute worst possible way to conduct foreign policy...so to the point at hand...I have not ever really be the biggest George W. Bush foreign policy apologist so if Jimmy Carter is calling George Bush a bad president, he surely knows firsthand what it takes to be truly bad at the highest office in the land. But the worst ever? Come on Jimmy it will take the fall of the nation for someone to dethrone you from that title. As far as domestic policy , however gas prices aren't always the best statistic to indicate the health of an economy, but aren't gas prices still cheaper today than they were in 1978 even without inflation? NT you will have to look it up.
Yeah, I heard recently that gas prices have not reached record highs of the early 80's. However, we are really close to passing that, and may have in this last price jump.
It seems to me that Carter realizes he was a failed president and has done everything in his power to atone for that failure, i.e. the active work for peace etc. on the global stage. He hasn't had the peace of mind or self-confidence to retire quietly like other ex-presidents. It seems to me as if he is desparate for redemtion. Thanks for the comment Johann.
Bad things that have been ascribed to the Carter presidency:
1. High interest and inflation rates
2. Enabling the rise to power of Marxist scum (the Sandinistas)in Nicaragua and Islamist scum in Iran (it was during the Carter years that Iran fell out of the hands of the Shah and into the hands of the Ayatollahs)
3. Timidity (which he and other Christian leftists would probably label "humility" or "meekness") toward the Soviet Union
Also, by all accounts he holds the notion that it is possible to peacefully coexist in mutual respect with people who are not interested in peaceful coexistence and mutual respect (e.g. Palestinians, Islamic radicals, Communists). No one who holds that idea deserves to be President of the United States. I will go as far as to say that no one who holds that idea deserves to be leader of anything other than the Quakers.
By the way, NT, Carter is a Baptist . . . just like Billy Clinton. Creepy, isn't it?
