Wednesday Highlights

Looks like our old pal Ahmadinejad ruffled some feather in his home country.

Tehran - Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stood accused of "indecency" on Wednesday after he publicly embraced and kissed on the hand an elderly woman who used to be his schoolteacher.

At a ceremony on Tuesday ahead of Iranian teachers' day, Ahmadinejad was photographed and filmed by state media stooping to kiss the woman's hand and then clasping her arms in an embrace.

I almost feel bad for him. I thought the "religion of peace" would be more tolerant of kissing elderly school teachers on the hand. Guess not.

A McCain Comeback?

The most recent poll numbers have John McCain leading in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, the first three states that will elect delegates to nominate a presidential candidate. I though McCain was out for the count, but maybe he has some life left. I will still be surprised if he can pull off this election. Watch out for Romney, who is polling strong in NH, and gaining ground in IA as well.

Bush Veto!

In what is only his second veto in almost 6 1/2 years, President Bush vetoed an bill to fund the war in Iraq that included a mandatory time table for withdrawing the troops. If there were ever a good time for the veto pen, this was it. In his address, the President pointed out that having a withdrawal timeline of October 1st would only say to insurgents, that all they have to do is wait out the hot Summer months and reemerge when American troops leave in the fall.

Regardless of what you think of the wisdom the timetable, it was at least encouraging to see Congress try to reassert a particle of its constitutional authority over war.

JKC,
I see your point, and would agree that Congress has abdicated their traditional role over war making.

It still remains that Congress did have an opportunity to affect whether we went to war or not. They voted overwhelmingly to give the President the power to go.

That said, point well taken.

Nice job Bush. He sticks to his guns. If people go far enough back he is not the reason we are over there in the first place.

I looked at the polls and did not seen NT on them. When is NT going to put his hat in the ring?
